WFYO Used $145,300 Grant to Advance E-Counselling Services
December 11, 2023We extend our sincerest thanks to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for presenting WES for Youth […]
(She/Her)
Katy completed her undergraduate degrees at the University of Waterloo, and attended University of Toronto to complete her Master’s of Social Work, specializing in mental health. Over the last ten years, she has gained experience in many areas of practice, including the areas of intimate partner violence, inpatient mental health, people in conflict with the law, community mental health, virtual counselling, and school social work.
Katy is especially passionate about youth mental health and suicide prevention. She is a registered
trainer for both ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and ASK (Assessing for Suicide in
Kids). She strongly believes in building mentally healthy schools and communities, where everyone can
support youth and connect them to resources, to intervene sooner and get earlier treatment. Katy also
believes in the importance of accessible health and mental health services for all, regardless of
geographical location, disability, income, race, gender, sexuality, and more. Katy practices from an anti-
oppressive, anti-racist, trauma-informed framework. She is also a strong advocate for the 2SLGBTQ+
community. Katy is a lifelong learner and has gratitude for the lessons received in every life experience.
Katy lives in northern Ontario, where she enjoys spending time in nature and along the water. Watching
the waves come and go is a mindful practice, and is a great reflection of the importance of “riding the wave” in life – mindfully experiencing our emotions come and go with acceptance and non-judgment.
Katy also volunteers in animal rescue, currently has four cats but has owned a variety of animals, enjoys
attending live music concerts, and is an avid collector of tattoos.
