(She/Her)
Lori Market is a registered social worker and has a Master’s degree in social work. She is also an artist and writer that uses expressive therapies in combination with counselling. Sometimes, people struggle to share thoughts and feelings, and art can be a safe, less daunting way for some to express emotions and challenges.
Lori specializes in the following: therapeutic art, expressive writing, bereavement, trauma, and building strengths and coping techniques. Lori developed an art therapy program from the ground up in a centre for youth in custody/detention and for youth on probation. She has worked with refugees, victims of crime, persons with eating disorders and in the Indigenous community.
Lori believes in the power of art and storytelling. As a survivor of trauma herself, she knows how hard it is to struggle with grief and trauma and how powerful artistic expression can be to get at the pain and the joy. Art as therapy does not require special talent – if you can draw a stick figure you can do it!
