Benson has been working with youth struggling with mental health and addictions for over ten years. As a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Benson helps youth identify and engage in their own unique healthy strengths and interests. Benson holds an honours Bachelor of Health and Physical Education from Laurentian University and a Master of Arts from Dalhousie University. His Master’s research focused on empowering youth with mental health and addiction issues to overcome barriers and thrive. Benson has worked with multi-disciplinary teams on a youth psychiatric inpatient unit, a community mental health and addiction agency, and a first nations health centre. Through these diverse employment experiences Benson has gained experience and training in a wide variety of therapeutic modalities such as CBT, ACT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, etc. Benson mindfully works with youth to cultivate healthy patterns of behaviour, gratitude, compassion, and an overall love for life.
